23 July 2026 – Nishimura & Asahi and Sy & Partners (SYP), the Philippine member firm of Nishimura & Asahi, conducted a webinar for Japanese companies operating in or considering investments in the Philippines. The webinar featured Masataka Sato and Satoshi Inami of Nishimura & Asahi, together with Glenn Tuazon of Sy & Partners, and attracted close to 200 participants from the Japanese business community.
The webinar focused on three compliance and risk-management topics frequently encountered by companies operating in the Philippines: bribery and anti-corruption, financial misconduct and fraud investigations, and workplace sexual harassment. The speakers discussed the Philippine legal framework, recent developments, and practical considerations for companies responding to potential misconduct, including interactions with regulators and law enforcement agencies, internal investigations, evidence preservation, and employer obligations under Philippine workplace laws.
Drawing on their experience advising Japanese and multinational clients across Asia, Masataka Sato and Satoshi Inami shared regional and cross-border perspectives from Nishimura & Asahi’s international practice, while Glenn Tuazon provided practical insights from handling disputes, investigations, labor matters, and compliance issues in the Philippines through Sy & Partners. Throughout the webinar, the speakers emphasized that a company’s response to a compliance issue is often as important as the incident itself, and that early action, proper documentation, and effective internal processes can significantly reduce legal and business risk.
The event also highlighted the close collaboration between Nishimura & Asahi and Sy & Partners in supporting Japanese companies doing business in the Philippines. By combining Nishimura & Asahi’s regional platform and longstanding relationships with Japanese clients with SYP’s local Philippine capabilities and on-the-ground experience, the firms provide coordinated advice on disputes, investigations, labor and employment, compliance, corporate transactions, and other cross-border legal matters.
The webinar forms part of the firms’ ongoing efforts to provide practical legal guidance to the Japanese business community. Nishimura & Asahi and Sy & Partners look forward to further joint webinars, seminars, and client events in the future as they continue to support Japanese businesses navigating the evolving legal and regulatory landscape in the Philippines.
